What is TREX?
TREX is a research study being conducted by the San Francisco Department of Public Health. We are testing the effectiveness of a monthly injection of a medication in individuals who use methamphetamine. The goal of this study is to see if this medication helps to reduce meth use.
What medication are you using in this study?
The medication we are using is called extended-release naltrexone (also known as VIVITROL®). It is given by injection once a month by a nurse or doctor. Naltrexone is currently FDA approved for the treatment of alcohol dependence and for preventing relapse to opiate dependence, and we are investigating whether it may have effects on meth use.
