Why are medications being given to meth users?
We ultimately want to learn whether medications can help people to stop or reduce their meth use and associated high-risk behaviors such as unprotected sex.
Why might medications work to reduce meth use?
Small-scale studies suggest that the medication we are testing may help reduce meth use. Specifics of the medication will be explained to you during the screening process. However, it is important to understand that we do not yet know if this medication will lead to a reduction in meth use. Because these studies are double-blind and randomized, you would receive either the medication or placebo; all participants will receive weekly harm-reduction counseling.
